If you have an SSD, I’d recommend using Storage mode for all crawls even if under 500 URLs, for two reasons:ġ. If you use it with a mechanical HDD, it would be much slower.
The Database storage mode is recommended for machines that have an SSD and for crawling sites at scale.Īs Screaming Frog has to write information continually to the database on your hard drive, it’s recommended to use only with an SSD. The 2nd mode, Database Storage, uses your hard drive to create a database where all the information will be stored. It may crash and the UI may slow down so much it’s almost unusable. Using RAM mode can limit your crawls, because larger sites = more URLs and info to be stored.Īs more RAM gets used up, your computer gets slower, SF gets slower and you may run out of memory and be unable to finish the crawl.Īlso, when the size of a crawl gets very large, using Screaming Frog may start to get unwieldy. (Remember using Xenu?) Screaming Frog, my favourite, most used SEO Tool and I imagine the most used SEO tool in the industry.
